Welcome Android XR, Seriously

Way back in 1981, Apple ran a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal headlined Welcome IBM, Seriously. Steve Jobs wasn't worried about the introduction of the IBM PC because he was confident that the Apple computers were better and less constricted by big corporate design.

A few days ago Samsung and Google shared the news, about their partnership along with Qualcomm, to produce an XR device under Project Moohan to compete directly with Apple's Vision Pro. This is good news for Vision Pro because it validates the platform and the effort of creating apps. The new extended reality device will run Google's Android XR and should be released to the market in 2025. Developers can apply for early access to the hardware now.

Resmed Kontor Strap for Vision Pro

I've been using Resmed mask and their headgear on a CPAP device since 2018 or so, to deal with my sleep apnea. I can tell you that their headgear is extremely comfortable, as I can wear the Resmed mask every night without issue. I was extremely interested when they announced their new Kontor Strap for Vision Pro.

The Kontor Strap appears to the best of both worlds between the second Dual Strap than ships with the Vision Pro and the AnnaPro A2. The latter adds support above the forehead and offsets pressure from the weight of the device. The Kontor also includes counterweights that connect to the microfibre strap with velcro-like adhesion. That way you can move the weights around to counterbalance the Vision Pro to suit your personal preferences.

It's available exclusively through the Apple Store in US, however it doesn't to be in stock at the moment. The strap will be available to me in Canada sometime in 2025, so I would guess it will be available worldwide where Vision Pro is sold.

Check out 9to5's coverage, which includes a video about using the strap.

WWDC 2025 & visionOS 3.0 I don't know about you but I find the socials flooded with substance-less click-bait posts about future tech to be disingenuous. Unless you are new to developing in the Apple ecosphere (Welcome if you are new), you would know that Apple announces new tech and operating systems every year at WWDC. In the Before Time, Steve Jobs would announce new tech at the January MacWorld conference keynote, but starting around the iPhone 4 introduction on June 7, 2010, the WWDC...

Let's Vision 2025 Last week Let's Vision 2025 conference was held in Shanghai. I've been told there were well over 2,500 attendees. That's approaching WWDC numbers! Last year I was invited to be a speaker in Beijing, at what would be the first conference in the world based around the Vision Pro. This year's conference was expanded to other Apple technologies, and attendees saw talks some of the speakers I met in 2024, and this year added Paul Hudson and Ryan McLeod creator of the ADA winning...

Me wearing my first Vision Pro at the Rochester NY Apple Store One Year With Apple Vision Pro It's been just over a year for early adopters of the Apple Vision Pro. I think for the majority of users it's been an amazing change for how we work and consume media. The bandwagon jumpers all returned their devices after the 14 day cooling off period. Like any new device it has its detractors, but I think a lot of us realize that Apple positioned the device as a Pro purchase to introduce this...
