Me wearing my first Vision Pro at the Rochester NY Apple Store
One Year With Apple Vision Pro
It's been just over a year for early adopters of the Apple Vision Pro. I think for the majority of users it's been an amazing change for how we work and consume media. The bandwagon jumpers all returned their devices after the 14 day cooling off period. Like any new device it has its detractors, but I think a lot of us realize that Apple positioned the device as a Pro purchase to introduce this paradigm changing device and technology. The limit could also have been due to the limited supply of OLED screens made for the Vision Pro. I use my Vision Pro nearly every day, even if it's just to look at spacial photos of my dogs. So far, Vision Pros used in medicine seems to be great use of the XR capabilities at work. For the rest of us, watching 3D movies with cinematic experiences are the top use case. Personally, I jump on 99% of my Zoom calls on Vision Pro. If you haven't tried out a Spacial FaceTime call, I'd suggest you do so. It's astounding. Even just using Vision Pro as a wide display for your Mac with mirroring is another great use case.
This is the worst Apple Vision Pro we'll have. - Steve Lipton
Pioneering Spatial Computing Education: From iOS to visionOS
Here's a great article by Francesco Perchiazzi reviewing the last (first) year of Apple Vision Pro development. It covers many of the areas and growing pains that we've been through in the last year. It covers nearly everything would want to know, but didn't know what to ask. Pioneering Spatial Computing Education: From iOS to visionOS
From Cosmo Scharf's My Life In Spacial Video
You're Not Making Enough Spatial Videos
Ok, I thought I was doing a good job for posterity by capturing spacial photos of important family events with my iPhone 16 Pro. Then I see Cosmo Scharf's My Life In Spacial Video post on LinkedIn. Face Palm! We all need to be capturing spacial video as well as spacial photos! Pro Tip: Shoot a lot of footage so you can make a great supercut like Cosmo did. ICYMI I interviewed XR pioneer Cosmo Scharf on my podcast.

Wearable AR in Everyday Contexts: Insights from a Digital Ethnography of YouTube Videos
Another great write up on XR technology over the years. As Oliver Weidlich says:
We set out to understand how early adopters of AR wearables like Meta Ray-Bans and the Apple Vision Pro used their devices on a regular basis. This research, led by the amazing Tram T., used digital ethnography to explore these early stages of a new generation of devices; what experiences are they having, and what opportunities are there with improvements in the hardware and software.
Get up close a personal with people riding bucking broncos and bulls on Apple Vision Pro. Apple latest immersive video came out last week. It's pretty good and also shows some of the bad angles to shoot immersive video. It's funny that after a year of consuming content on Vision Pro, I'm now aware of the experiential differences between 3D video and Immersive video. The latter is not 3D but rather fills your periphery with 180° x 360° of imagery. I wonder how long before we can get true 3D immersive video delivered to each eye. Have I missed this? Ignore me. Check out this page on Apple if you haven't seen it. it's a good overview of how the "groundbreaking spatial computing experiences of Apple Vision Pro go even further with visionOS 2." Spacial Delivery
Upcoming Event: Create interactive stories for visionOS
Apple is hosting developers in Cupertino and online for an all-day activity, where you’ll tour Apple Vision Pro's storytelling capabilities and learn how to take advantage of the spectrum of immersion to bring people into new worlds. Last week Apple ran "Bring SwiftUI To Your App". It was great and super informative on beginner and advanced SwiftUI. If you haven't signed up for Create interactive stories for visionOS, do it! (Sorry it wasn't recorded.) Feb 27, 2025 10am - 5pm PST Create interactive stories for visionOS

Early XR prototype? The Arnolfini Portrait by Jan Van Eyck is probably the one of the first extended reality proof of concepts I saw. The truth is that an artists prowess was in depicting reality, before photography was invented. Still I was inspired by this artwork's attention to detail and trompe l'oeil ('fool the eye"). NVIDIA Adopts Vision Pro with it's Issac Groot AI Enabled Robots Unveiled at CES earlier this month, NVIDIA's keynote introduced several amazing new features, but Issac...
'Wicked' Use of Vision Pro Director John M. Chu used Apple Vision Pro during post-production of the film Wicked. He used the device to watch scenes as if he was in a theatre. He could then communicate with his teams about his thoughts. He was also able to mark up the film with gestures with Evercast, so the production team would know where to make changes. Watch him discuss the use of his Vision Pro on YouTube. You can read about the use of the device on 9to5mac.‘Wicked’ director Jon M. Chu...
TableTopKit TL;DR Cristian (without h) and Roxana Nagy are building a game app for Vision Pro using TableTopKit. I had a chance to play around with a few people on a spatial call, including Cristian last week. TabletopKit was introduced this year at WWDC24 in a "lightweight" package of one session accompanied by a sample code project and the relative documentation. You can read about Cristian's discoveries, observations and some thoughts on TableTopKit on his blog. He includes some "radars"...
